LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY
One Relationship at a Time.
Members of MAPP have been active in promoting access to treatment for mental illness and suicide reduction. In 2013 members were instrumental in helping pass HB 583, a bill which created the Montana Suicide Review Team - the first of its kind in the nation.
MAPP members also provide input and consultation to the Montana Department of Health and Human Services (DPHHS) on impacts of rule changes on the mental health system funded through CMS.
MAPP members have volunteered time to meet with the Montana Medicaid Pharmacist and pharmacist case management of children served in the foster care system to ensure that formulary and decision-making entities are informed of standards of care and that medical care is not impacted negatively.
Lastly, members of MAPP have provided testimony to the state legislature on the impacts of changes to state statute and cuts to the Medicaid system have on other state systems as well as the health and welfare of children, adolescents and their families.

Many members of MAPP serve as clinical faculty in psychiatry at the University of Washington School of Medicine's WWAMI program.

The majority of MAPP members are also members of the MPA, the Montana chapter of the American Psychiatric Association.
SUBCOMMITTEES
Physician leadership by members of MAPP brings awareness and support to promote mental health and improved systems functioning to private and public agencies and community health measures.
01. Foster Care
Advancing the knowledge and treatment of psychiatric problems of children, adolescents and their families involved in the foster care system with a special emphasis on foster care children who are prescribed psychiatric medications.
02. Suicide Prevention
Enhancing awareness and prevention strategies for the reduction of suicide in Montana which as had one of the highest suicide rates in the nation for decades.
03. Schools
Providing consultation and training on mental health conditions and evidence-based strategies for health and wellness promotion as well as intervention for mental illness and crisis management.
04. Mental Illness Prevention
Collaborating with other groups interested in child, family and community including strategies and interventions that promote wellness and reduce the risk of developing a mental illness with a special emphasis on early intervention and incorporating elements of the Vermont Family Based Approach.
